Trimet: new Head of R&D

Tobias Beyer will become the new Head of Research & Development at aluminium manufacturer Trimet on 1 April 2025. In his new role, his main aim is to support the green transformation of the industry.

Beyer has been working as an engineer at Trimet since 2018 and became Deputy Head of Department two years ago. Previously, he was responsible for the development of casting alloys. The mechanical engineering graduate knows his way around aluminium: Before joining Trimet, he worked for a wheel manufacturer for vehicle construction.

For Beyer, the current challenges facing the aluminium processing industry determine the work programme of Research & Development at Trimet: "Supporting the green transformation of the industry is one of the most important tasks of materials development," he says. "We are working on providing resource-saving aluminium alloys that simultaneously meet the increasing material requirements and are cost-efficient."

In its research laboratories, Trimet develops, among other things, aluminium alloys that allow energy-saving processing and have a low CO2 footprint thanks to a high recycled content. These include recyclable alloy variants of commercially available primary alloys. According to the aluminium specialist, it uses computer-aided simulation technology and laboratory equipment that enables mechanical tests, microstructure analyses and the determination of electrical and corrosion-chemical properties.
