The die casting industry is currently experiencing a profound upheaval due to the switch from combustion engines to electric motors. This change goes hand in hand with an increasing demand for larger components and therefore for larger die casting machines. At the same time, the need for sustainable production processes is growing. With this in mind, Wollin has developed an innovative spraying system that meets the requirements of the industry.
The minimum quantity spraying process (Eco+Spray) developed by Wollin dispenses with the use of water for mould cooling. Instead, a concentrated release agent is applied in minimal quantities. This process is extremely resource-efficient, as it reduces water consumption to almost zero and eliminates the need for waste water disposal. It also leads to savings in mould service life, cycle times, energy costs and compressed air. This makes the spraying process not only more sustainable, but also more efficient and cost-effective.
With the growing demand for larger components, the size of moulds and spraying equipment is also increasing. Large spraying tools are heavier and pose a challenge for the carrier systems. Wollin has developed various solutions to overcome this problem with large die casting machines and giga presses. These include the use of multiple robots, gantry systems for fast and flexible mould movements and linear spraying systems. The latter system was specially developed for giga presses and enables simultaneous spraying of both mould halves thanks to a multi-stage telescopic system. It has a horizontal and vertical stroke of over 3 metres each and can carry spraying tools weighing up to 600 kg.
We are also pleased to present the latest addition to Wollin's ESM product range: the ESM1 LC. This machine is primarily designed for use in hot chamber die casting machines. It is perfect for smaller moulded parts, enabling precise spraying with high positioning accuracy and fast speed for accelerated cycle times.
Overall, Wollin's new spraying system and innovative approaches to overcoming the challenges of larger moulds and spraying tools offer promising solutions for the changing needs of the die casting industry.
