Kurtz Ersa Logistik opens extension

On October 06, the extension building of Kurtz Ersa Logistik GmbH was ceremonially inaugurated at the Kreuzwertheim site. Kurtz Ersa Advisory Board member Rainer Kurtz, as the building owner, welcomed the mayor Klaus Thoma, representatives of the general contractor Riedel Bau from Schweinfurt and from the architect´s office Menig & Partner, members of the Kurtz Ersa Management as well as the Kurtz Ersa Logistik staff.

“Less than a year ago, we came together for the groundbreaking ceremony and today we are able to celebrate the inauguration here. I would like to thank everyone involved for this smooth construction, as it is written in the book – deadline met, on budget, a technical masterstroke. Thank you for this concerted effort!”

Greetings followed from Mayor Klaus Thoma and Sven Rückert, Technical Manager at Riedel Bau, before Thomas Mühleck, CFO and CEO a.i. took the microphone in his role as Managing Director of Kurtz Ersa Logistik: “It only remains for me to also thank all those involved – that was ‘on time, on budget’, what more do you want as a businessman? After the opening of the central warehouse in 2018 and the business volume that has grown significantly in five years, this was the next logical step to put our logistics on a bigger footing.” After cutting the blue ribbon, the official first item to be properly stored was a keg of rum, which was transported to its rightful place to applause.

With the extension building (investment volume 10 mio. Euro), Kurtz Ersa Logistik is now even better equipped for the prompt supply of Kurtz Ersa sites and customers at home and abroad. The sustainability aspect also played an important role in the construction project – the extension for a photovoltaic system has already been prepared on the new hall roof, there are four car charging points for e-mobility at the site (optional retrofitting for truck connection) and a cistern with 70 m3 useful capacity for rainwater storage or drainage. 60 employees keep everything flowing at Kurtz Ersa Logistik – around 4,000 outgoing items are moved daily in 2-shift operation, and 38,000 items are currently in stock. As a result of the extension, the existing building grew by a further 66 meters to the south, gaining an additional 3,300 m2 of floor space; the total floor space is now 11,300 m2. In connection with the construction project, the warehouse technology was also significantly increased: the wide aisle warehouse now has 7,900 Euro pallet spaces (+140%), the automated small parts warehouse now has 46,000 container storage spaces as well as three additional state-of-the-art picking workstations to increase output (max. +75%). In addition, a 730 m2 open area was connected to the material flow through the installation of a 2.5-ton elevator and three more warehouse lifts with a storage area capacity of 600 m2 were implemented.

“The extension of Kurtz Ersa Logistik sets another milestone in the development of our logistics division. With the additional capacity and the installed warehouse logistics, we are able to supply our sites and business partners with the required parts and components in a timely manner at all times,” said Markus Schmidt, Manager Kurtz Ersa Central Warehouse.
