Hamburg's innovation landscape is growing: a young start-up has developed a new type of 3D printing platform to make it easier for companies of all sizes to get started with additive manufacturing.
The young deep-tech start-up 3Dock, based on the research campus of the Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY) in Hamburg, is presenting a new type of 3D printing platform based on both the ‘Infrastructure as a Service’ (IaaS) concept and a flexible subscription model. With this approach, the company is simplifying access to advanced printing technologies and setting itself apart from traditional individual solutions.
The process is simple: users upload their CAD data, select the appropriate material and keep an eye on all steps through real-time tracking. In addition to the actual 3D printing service, the solution offers additional project management functions and optional engineering support. The model is therefore particularly interesting for companies that cannot or do not want to maintain their own capacities for the installation of an internal printing department.
The platform currently covers various processes in the field of plastic-based additive manufacturing, including FDM, SLA and SLS. However, the offering is constantly being further developed to integrate new materials, processes and digital tools, according to 3Dock. The start-up's location on the DESY site emphasises its focus on research and technological development. According to the team, it is continuously developing new methods to make additive manufacturing usable in more and more industries. This is not just about pure production, but also about collaborative workflows in the context of construction and design.
