The Additive Academy of the Fraunhofer Research Institution for Additive Manufacturing Technologies (IAPT) in Hamburg-Bergedorf is organising a compact course on the basics of additive manufacturing (AM) on 25 and 26 March. The aim of the course is to provide companies with an introduction to the technology and teach advanced skills for the design of complex components.
The course is aimed at those responsible for research, product design and manufacturing as well as business development and other management levels. According to the Fraunhofer IAPT, the course will take into account the individual roles of the participants and address the specific skills they need for success in their respective areas of responsibility.
Trends, costs, challenges and opportunities
The basic training on day 1 deals with current trends in additive production and looks at applications, standards and cost models. Among other things, participants will acquire the skills to discover areas of application for AM in their own field of work and avoid pitfalls during development. The independent experts from Fraunhofer IAPT will also demonstrate the relevance of different AM technologies for the individual challenges of the participants.
On day 2, the ‘Design for Additive Production’ training focusses on complex AM components. The content includes, for example, the advantages of lightweight constructions, the opportunities offered by the functional integration of AM designs, productivity increases and the reduction of material waste.
The Additive Academy courses are held in either German or English at the Fraunhofer IAPT in Hamburg-Bergedorf. The technical equipment of the independent research facility facilitates the acquisition of practical skills and insights into the technologies. Direct contact with the course instructors also allows immediate feedback for direct clarification of questions and personalised guidance. A certificate of attendance from the Fraunhofer IAPT documents successful participation.
