Dr. Astrid Rota is the new Managing Director of Additive Manufacturing

On 1st October 2023, Astrid Rota took over the management of the Additive Manufacturing division of Kurtz GmbH & Co. KG. From now on, she will manage the Additive Manufacturing division for metal 3D printing of the Kurtz Ersa Corporation. The division with start-up character is three years young and builds systems to produce metal components – starting with the entry-level model Alpha 140 up to the Kurtz Ersa Flying Ray for the production of large parts. Astrid Rota will set an important course for metal 3D printing and drive the market maturity of the Flying Ray.

Dr. Astrid Rota graduated from the University of Karlsruhe (KIT) as a Diplom-Ingenieur and received her Dr.-Ing. from the University of Bremen in the Department of Production Technology with the topic Powder Metallurgical Process Development. For more than ten years, Dr. Rota worked at Fraunhofer IFAM in Bremen, developing innovative manufacturing technologies using powder metallurgy. The focus was on strategic and market-oriented research and development work for various industries such as medical technology, energy, and automotive. Dr. Astrid Rota gained further experience as director of an internal start-up on energy storage solutions of SGL Carbon with which she achieved sustainable commercial success. For the last seven years, Dr. Rota has been Head of Metal Process Technology at EOS, a leading solution provider for industrial 3D printing. There, she was responsible for the development area of metallic materials and processes and, together with her team, defined the hardware and software requirements for new equipment. Dr. Rota was instrumental in developing the Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) technology. She continually identified product improvement opportunities to meet customer needs and worked to expand fundamental understanding of Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS) as a strategic enabler for future development.

Dr. Rota has extensive technical know-how in metal 3D printing. She will profitably contribute her many years of expertise to the Additive Manufacturing division at Kurtz Ersa and lead the 3D printing team with currently 25 members. The Kurtz Ersa Corporation wishes Dr. Rota all the best for the upcoming tasks and is looking forward to the cooperation as well as joint projects.
