The ACHEMA badge is awarded to individuals who have made a significant contribution to the promotion of DECHEMA and ACHEMA. It was donated on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of ACHEMA in 1970 and was awarded for the first time at ACHEMA 1973.
Clemens Schmees, managing partner of SCHMEES cast, was awarded the ACHEMA plaque for his services at ACHEMA on 12 June 2024. During his eleven years of service on the DECHEMA board, he acted as an important and successful link between ACHEMA exhibitors and the DECHEMA board.
Clemens Schmees (born 1957) studied foundry technology and completed a training programme as a welding engineer alongside his studies. In 1980, he joined his parents' company, Edelstahlwerke Schmees in Langenfeld, and ten years later became the sole managing director. In 1992, the foundry was expanded through the acquisition of Copitzer Guß GmbH in Pirna, Saxony. At both locations, Schmees produces precision castings made of stainless steel for the food and pharmaceutical industries, for energy engineering and for the construction of pumps and fittings. In recent years, the company has made a name for itself by producing cast sculptures made of mirror-polished stainless steel for world-famous artists.
Clemens Schmees has been a member of the ACHEMA committee since 1997 and was also a member of the DECHEMA board of directors for eleven years (2005 to 2016) as its representative. ACHEMA has always been a matter close to his heart, and he has put his heart and soul into it. In these honorary positions, he has been instrumental in ensuring the successful realisation of the trade fair for many years.
